South Padre Island boasts miles of gorgeous coastline, so you and your loved one will find a secluded stretch of sand all to yourself.
Head to South Padre Island Seashore to include a visit to a National Park on your itinerary.
Here, you can explore the coastline for seashells, spend the afternoon flying a kite, or just enjoy a lazy day listening to the waves crash against the shore.
To make this the perfect romantic getaway, plan a romantic dinner on the beach or schedule a sunset dinner cruise for your sweetie.
Attractions in South Padre include the Laguna Madre Nature Trail, dolphin-watching tours, deep-sea fishing charters, and the Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historic Site.
Just don’t visit South Padre Island during Spring Break. The crowds will suck the romance right out of your trip, as it is a popular Spring Break destination!

The Strand is Galveston’s historic district full of great places to eat or catch some fun live music.
One of our favorite spots is the rooftop bar located on top of the historic Tremont House Hotel.

Port Aransas
The small Texas town of Port Aransas is located on Mustang Island, an 18-mile-long barrier reef connected to Corpus Christi.
Port Aransas is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the United States, so it is easy to understand why we had to add it to our list of romantic getaways in Texas.
This small beach community is the perfect place to rent a beach cabin and enjoy a weekend of solitude with your loved one.
Of course, if you want to get out and explore, there are many things to do in Port Aransas.
You can enjoy a day at the beach by visiting one of the best beaches in Texas, Port Aransas Beach or Mustang Island State Park.
These great beaches offer fishing, kayaking, or horseback riding opportunities.
In town, you can grab a delicious seafood dinner at one of the many restaurants before watching a live performance at the Port Aransas Community Theatre.
No matter what you choose to do, Port Aransas is one of the best romantic getaways in Texas!
Fredericksburg
For the perfect romantic weekend getaway in the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg, Texas, is a must.
Known as one of the premier wine regions in the state, Fredericksburg is a German city where visitors flock to spend a romantic weekend.
Its location near Austin and San Antonio means it is an easy drive to escape city life for a bit.
Spend some time enjoying wine tastings at the numerous Fredericksburg wineries or visiting the distilleries and breweries in the area.
We love jumping on the 290 Wine Shuttle and hitting up all of the wine-tasting rooms on Highway 290, known as Wine Road 290, during our time in Fredericksburg.
This ensures that we leave the driving to someone else!
Of course, wine tasting isn’t the only thing to do in Fredericksburg. On the contrary.
There are so many fun things to do in Fredericksburg that you could stay busy for weeks!
History buffs will love visiting the Pioneer Museum, Fort Martin Scott, or the National Museum of the Pacific War, all of which call this small town home.
Nature lovers will want to enjoy the natural beauty at Enchanted Rock State Park or the Lyndon B. Johnson State and National Park in nearby Johnson City, TX.
Please note that if you are planning to visit Enchanted Rock State Park, you must make a reservation well in advance.
If you want a cozy room for your romantic retreat, Fredericksburg offers numerous vacation rentals that should fit the bill.
You can find cozy rooms with a private hot tub that should round out the perfect romantic vacation.
This quaint town has so much to offer that it is easy to see why it is one of the most romantic getaways in Texas!
This is also one of my favorite places to experience fall in Texas!
Wimberley
Not only is Wimberley one of the most charming small towns in Texas, but it is also one of the best places to visit in Texas, especially for a romantic getaway.
Located in the Texas Hill Country, not far from Austin, Wimberley offers an eclectic artistic community surrounded by rolling hills, flowing rivers, and romantic places to stay.
After finding just the place to stay for your romantic weekend getaway, take some time to explore this area of the Hill Country.
Things to do in Wimberley include visiting the wineries and distilleries in the area, checking out the popular swimming holes like Jacob’s Well and the Blue Hole, or enjoying the shops and art galleries scattered throughout town.
Of course, you can also add a romantic dinner to your list while in town. For this, I would suggest The Leaning Pear. Their seasonal menu is divine!
Boerne
Another favorite in the Texas Hill Country is Boerne, Texas.
Located about 40 minutes from San Antonio, Boerno is one of the romantic getaways in Texas that allow you to do as much or as little as you would like.
You can enjoy shopping on Boerne’s Main Street before hiking on the many hiking trails in the area.
Other Boerne attractions include wineries, breweries, local museums, and the Guadalupe River State Park.
Like other small-town romantic getaways in the Texas Hill Country, Boerne is also home to numerous traditional guest rooms and romantic hotels, many of which are within walking distance of Main Street.
Dripping Springs
Dripping Springs is another romantic place in the Texas Hill Country.
Visitors flock to Dripping Springs in the summer to enjoy one of the most prized possessions of the Hill Country, Hamilton Pool Preserve.
Hamilton Pool Preserve is a beautiful natural spring-fed pool that is the perfect place to cool off from the Texas sun. Not only that, but it is also one of the many waterfalls in Texas!
Couples will want to visit the many wineries and distilleries that call Dripping Springs home before retiring to their beautiful Hill Country accommodations.
Marble Falls
The lakeside community of Marble Falls, Texas, is another of the most romantic getaways in Texas.
Marble Falls is a small Texas town located on the edge of Lake Marble Falls in the Texas Hill Country.
As one of the premier getaways in Texas, Marble Falls is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors.
Things to do in Marble Falls include enjoying Lake Marble Falls (one of the fabulous lakes in Texas), exploring the area’s caverns, and hiking in the nearby local and state parks.

New Braunfels

San Antonio
You can’t list romantic getaways in Texas and not include San Antonio, especially a weekend in San Antonio!
Famous for the Alamo and the San Antonio River Walk, San Antonio has attracted visitors for decades.
The San Antonio River Walk is the perfect place to stay if you want this to be one of the best romantic getaways in Texas. The River Walk is lined with beautiful hotels offering stunning river views.
San Antonio’s River Walk allows visitors to stroll along its banks, enjoying the many shops and restaurants that call the River Walk home.

During the summer, visitors can enjoy fabulous water recreational activities on Lake Granbury. This fun lake is perfect for boating, riding jet skis, skiing, tubing, and more.
If you don’t have a way to get out on the water, don’t worry. Instead, you can enjoy a day at the beach when you visit Granbury’s City Beach Park.
Of course, the lake isn’t the only thing to do in Granbury. This small town has an awesome town square that houses boutique shops, live performance venues, art galleries, restaurants, and wineries and hosts numerous events throughout the year.

Glen Rose

Glen Rose is best known for the dinosaur tracks permanently embedded in the bedrock of the Paluxy River in Dinosaur Valley State Park.

Big Bend National Park
The natural beauty of Big Bend National Park and the surrounding area make it an easy addition to your list of romantic getaways.
Since this area is a certified Dark Skies location, choosing to stay in Big Bend National Park is one of the most romantic getaways, especially at night.
Imagine sitting under the huge Texas sky blanketed with stars as you snuggle up with your loved one!
The night skies aren’t the only reason to visit Big Bend National Park. It’s also the perfect place to enjoy hiking, kayaking on the Rio Grande River, or taking a scenic drive in the West Texas Mountains.
Note that Big Bend can get crowded during the prime season, so be sure to book your accommodations early, especially if you hope to stay in Big Bend National Park.
If the park is full, you can check out the nearby town of Terlingua, TX. Terlingua offers cool glamping accommodations, a fun Texas ghost town, and great local restaurants.
A bit past Terlingua is the gorgeous Lajitas Golf Resort. If you are looking for luxurious accommodations to accompany your romantic getaway to Big Bend, Lajitas is where you want to stay!
While you’re visiting West Texas, remember to explore the other small towns that call this area home, such as Alpine and Marfa.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park
The Guadalupe Mountains National Park is located in far West Texas, making it a remote getaway for sure. But, remote could also equate to one of the most romantic getaways for many of you, so we wanted to be sure and include it!
The Guadalupe Mountains National Park comprises over 86,000 acres of land surrounded by the Chihuahuan Desert.
Guests to this remote park can enjoy hiking, scenic drives, and numerous opportunities to observe the local wildlife.
Most people who visit Guadalupe Mountains National Park either camp in their developed campsites or stay in Carlsbad, New Mexico, about an hour away from the park.
Canton
Canton, in East Texas, is another great place to add to your list of romantic getaways in Texas.
Canton is most famous for its monthly trade days, which occur the weekend before the first Saturday of each month.
While the trade days are great, Canton is fun to explore any time of year.
For a romantic getaway, book a cabin in the East Texas woods and escape life for a weekend. If you feel like venturing out, Canton has several great restaurants and fun shops to explore.

I’ve been to Austin and had San Antonio and Dallas on my list for years but was not aware of all the other locations and the fact that Texas has so many waterfront locations. Looking at the photo of Galveston Island’s pier, I would have thought it was the Santa Monica pier here in Los Angeles.
