The charming lakefront community of Granbury, TX is located about 45 minutes southwest of Fort Worth. There are so many fun things to do in Granbury, TX that you could visit all the time and still not run out of activities.

This fabulous Texas small town is full of history, has a great food scene, is full of boutique shops, and is one of the best beaches near Dallas!

So, it doesn’t matter if you are looking for a fun weekend getaway from Dallas, or a full blown Texas road trip, be sure to add Granbury, TX to your list!

    1. Lake Granbury

    Lake Granbury

    One of the top reasons that Granbury makes for a great weekend getaway in Texas is the fabulous lake it sits on, Lake Granbury.

    As one of the best lakes in Dallas, visitors flock to Lake Granbury to enjoy all sorts of water recreation.

    Lake Granbury is perfect for skiing, fishing, wakeboard, or riding jet skis!

    The long, narrow body of water is contributed to the Brazos River which forms the main channel through the lake.

    Visitors to Lake Granbury can enjoy the 103 miles of shoreline dotted with beautiful lake homes in addition to fun and popular public spaces.

    There are several areas to launch your boat or jet ski, so grab your friends and family and had out for a day on the lake.

    You can even find jet ski and kayak rentals if you need to borrow some equipment to get out on the water!

    2. City Beach Park

    505 E. Pearl St., Granbury, TX 76048

    Even if you don’t have a watercraft, you can still enjoy Lake Granbury.

    There are several public parks that allow you to access the water, but one of the most popular is City Beach Park.

    Located right off of the historic Granbury square, City Beach Park is the perfect place to enjoy a day out on Lake Granbury.

    Grab your picnic supplies and enjoy using their picnic tables while you swim in the refreshing waters.

    In addition to picnic areas, City Beach Park also houses public restrooms, a protected swimming area, and fishing piers.

    City Beach Park is one of the top attractions in Granbury, so definitely add it to your must-see list.

    3. Historic Granbury Square

    A visit to the historic Granbury Square is a must during your time in Granbury, Texas!

    Also known as “Downtown Granbury,” the historic Granbury Square is the perfect spot to spend the afternoon.

    In addition to shopping at all of the cute boutique shops in and around the Granbury Square, you can also enjoy visiting the many wine tasting rooms here! There are several wine tasting rooms on the square, each with their own unique style and wine offerings, including many Texas wines, so you might as well just try them all!

    One of my favorite places to do a wine tasting in Granbury, Texas is at D’Vine Wine. I just love their laid back atmosphere and their wide variety of wines.

    There are also several fun restaurants on the square ranging from authentic German cuisine to diner style hamburgers.

    I love going into the shops and exploring the historic buildings they are housed in. Some of them are really cool!

    When you are ready for a sweet treat, you won’t have to go far. Granbury’s historic downtown square is home to ice cream shops, candy shops, and more to help satisfy your sweet tooth.

    During your time in downtown Granbury, be sure to stop into the shops in Granbury Square Plaza and the shops that are located near the town square on the side streets.

    Quick side note, Granbury has one of the best courthouse squares in the state! They have even won awards to prove it!

    4. Granbury Opera House

    133 E. Pearl St., Granbury, 76048

    Granbury’s historic downtown square is also home to a couple of live performance venues. One live performance venue, the Granbury Opera House has been on the Granbury town square since 1886!

    The Granbury Opera House underwent a major remodel in 2012 and is now a star showpiece on the Granbury art scene thanks to the management of the Granbury Theatre Company.

    You can enjoy an evening out on the town when you combine a show at the Granbury Opera House with dinner at one of the many downtown Granbury restaurants!

    You really do have to see it for yourself. The Granbury Theatre Company puts love into every performance and does a great job taking care of this historic opera house!

    5. Hood County Jail Museum

    208 N. Crockett Street, Granbury, Texas 76048

    Located a block from the downtown square, the Hood County Jail Museum is a fun attraction for the entire family.

    This historic building served as the only jail in Hood County until 1978! Built in 1885, the jail was home to numerous inmates over the years and served as a residence for the sheriff and his family.

    You can visit the Hood County Jail Museum to see all of the Texas history artifacts they have on hand and to visit the jail cells!

    6. Railroad Depot Museum

    109 E. Ewell St., Granbury, Texas 76048

    For a unique museum experience during your time in Granbury, Texas, be sure to visit the Railroad Depot Museum.

    Located a couple of blocks from the historic square, the Railroad Depot Museum allows visitors to learn some local history. The railroad was a vital part of the town of Granbury and the surrounding Hood County area, so it only makes sense to visit this little piece of Granbury’s history.

    7. Granbury Live

    110 N. Crocket St., Granbury, 76048

    Another of the live entertainment venues in Granbury, TX is Granbury Live. Located on the historic square, Granbury Live hosts live performances throughout the year.

    Here you can see all kind of tribute bands, making this a great place for a night out in this small town.

    8. Brazos Drive In

    1800 W. Pearl St., Granbury, 76048

    I love the small town feel of the town of Granbury, Texas, and a visit to the Brazos Drive In just adds to this in my opinion.

    The Brazos Drive In is the perfect place in Granbury to watch movies. Since the drive in charges by the car and not the person, feel free to pile as many people as you legally can into your vehicle.

    9. Hewlett Park

    650 W. Pearl St., Granbury, Texas 76048

    Hewlett Park is one of the public parks in Granbury that is located right on the lake.

    This is the perfect place to spend the day enjoying outdoor activities while on your Granbury getaway.

    This park has a public fishing pier, a children’s play area, covered pavilions, and more. It has ample parking, but is also within easy walking distance from downtown Granbury.

    10. Granbury Trolley

    Another of the fun things that the city of Granbury offers is the Granbury Trolley. You will see both locals and tourists enjoying a ride on the trolley. Rides are free on Friday and Saturdays, making this a great way to get around Granbury!

    11. Granbury Art Galleries

    Believe it or not, the small town of Granbury boasts several art galleries!

    I love that you can visit the galleries and see works by local artists! These galleries contain everything from custom paintings to one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.

    There are several art galleries both on and near the Granbury square that are definitely worth checking out!

    Be sure to visit the Lake Granbury Art Association as well. Located in what used to be a working gristmill, the Art Association is not only a studio for local artists, but it also serves as an art gallery.

    We love to visit the Art Association. You never know what they will have on display and what treasures you will find while visiting. It is also located right next to Bicentennial Park so you can easily enjoy an afternoon stroll after viewing the local art that is on display.

    You can also head to the Granbury visitor center to learn more about all of the galleries around town.

    12. Explore Granbury’s Breweries and Distilleries

    There are several fabulous breweries and distilleries in the small town of Granbury, TX.

    While you are in the downtown area, you can check out the Local Goat Distiller, located a couple of blocks off of the square. The Local Goat Distillery serves up craft cocktails created with their small batch made rum, gin, and and vodka.

    If you are wanting to visit a brewer while in Granbury, then you definitely don’t want to miss Revolver Brewing.

    People come from all of the Dallas-Fort Worth area to visit Revolver. They have a great atmosphere and a nice selection of craft beers on tap. There is often live music hosted here as well, so be ready to pull up a set, make new friends, and stay a while!

    Another fun place to check out is Brew Drinkery. Brew is located right by the town square, and is a great place to try out some local beer as they have 40 on tap!

    We love to grab a drink from Brew and then head outside to their patio area to enjoy the outdoors with our beverage! Brew is truly a great place to visit in Granbury!

    13. Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour

    If you find yourself in Granbury on the weekend, then be sure to take a Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour.

    The tours are offered on Friday and Saturday nights. The tour leaves right from the Granbury square making it convenient to find.

    As you wander your way through the downtown area, you get to hear some fun stories about the history of the city and some of the ghosts that are believed to haunt the area.

    This really is a fun ghost tour that is full of interesting information and local history.

    14. Play a Round of Golf

    Golfers will love playing a round of golf on the many golf courses that can be found in the Granbury area.

    Grab a friend and your clubs and spend the day out on the green!

    15. Yeats-Duke 1858 Working Museum

    214 N. Crockett St., Granbury, Texas 76048

    If you like museums that make you feel like you have stepped back in time, then you will love the Yeats-Duke 1858 Working Museum.

    The demonstrations here are given by local historians, so you truly feel as if you have been transported to the 1800s.

    Just keep in mind that the museum is only open on the weekends!

    16. Granbury Doll House Museum

    421 E. Bridge Street, Granbury, TX

    If you are looking for a quirky and unique place to visit in Granbury then head for the Granbury Doll House Museum.

    This museum, which is located in a house that looks like a doll house, houses a large collection of dolls. It’s the perfect place for any doll lover!

    17. Shanley Park

    Also Know As Bicentennial Park

    Shanley Park is the perfect place to spend some time outdoors in Granbury, TX.

    Shanley Park has great walking trails that wind their way around a little water feature that seems to always have ducks swimming in it. LOL!

    Located directly behind city hall, Shanley Park is also home to several events in the city.

    The hike and bike trail winds around the creek and towards the lake. We especially love visiting the park and walking the hike and bike trail during the holiday season when the park comes to life with loads of lights and decorations.

    18. Lambert Branch Park

    Another fun park to visit in Granbury is the Lambert Branch Park. This small community park is located on the corner of Rucker Street and North Brazos.

    Here you can enjoy the fishing pier while kids play on the children’s playground.

    19. Dinosaur Valley State Park

    So, I want to start by saying that I know that Dinosaur Valley State Park is actually located in Glen Rose, Texas. But, it is just such a great place and really close to Granbury, so I just had to put it on this list!

    Dinosaur Valley State Park allows you to explore (and see for yourself) real dinosaur footprints! It’s true!

    The footprints from the dinosaurs that once roamed this area are fossilized in the bed of the Paluxy River and you can see them for yourself when you visit!

    In addition, this is a great place to do some hiking, biking, or horseback riding as the state park has great equestrian trails.

    Pack a picnic lunch and spend the day in the rolling hills of Glen Rose for a fun outing from Granbury, Texas.

    I haven't been to Granbury yet, but I plan to add it to my road trip itinerary while I will be in Texas. It's a great list of things to do there. I would like to visit City Beach Park, Historic Granbury Square, and enjoy the picnic at Lake Granbury.

    Granbury seems to be a charming small town. I would start first with the historic Granbury Town Square, visiting some of the shops and eateries. And then I would head to one of those 3 Parks to walk off those calories. Looks like a great local day trip!
