Let’s start our list was a Texas town that’s famous for being an unknown famous place.

Home to the mysterious Marfa Lights, an out-of-nowhere Prada store (yes, really), and a thriving arts scene, Marfa delights visitors with it’s quirky charm.

During your time in Marfa, visit the Chinati Foundation for mind-bending minimalist art, browse the quirky galleries, and grab a bite at one of the many restaurants in town.

If you’re looking for a fun place to go glamping in Texas, be sure to check out El Cosmico, known as the “Bohemian West Texas Nomadic Hotel!”

Once a booming river port, Jefferson feels like it’s been frozen in time.

With charming bed-and-breakfasts, spooky ghost tours, and an old-fashioned general store, it’s ideal for history buffs and paranormal enthusiasts alike.

Check out the Jefferson Historical Museum, or book a stay at one of the town’s famously haunted hotels.

Jefferson’s close proximity to Dallas makes it a great weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city!

Terlingua – The Ghost Town With a Pulse

A ghost town with a thriving community? Yep, that’s Terlingua for you.

Located near Alpine and Big Bend National Park, this quirky town has rugged beauty, offbeat saloons, and some of the best chili you’ll ever eat.

What started as a mining town in the 1880s is now a fun and quirky Texas ghost town.

It’s close proximity to Big Bend National Park has helped to put Terlingua back on the map and gain some popularity as one of the best places to visit in Texas.

Stop by the Starlight Theatre Restaurant & Saloon for live music and great food, and explore the eerie Terlingua Cemetery before venturing into Big Bend National Park for some jaw-dropping scenery.

Gruene – Home of Texas’ Oldest Dance Hall

Historic Gruene Hall

Gruene (pronounced Green—you’re welcome) is famous for Gruene Hall, the state’s oldest continuously operating dance hall and some fabulous river tubing thanks to the Guadalupe River intersecting the town.

Whether you’re two-stepping to live music or floating down the Guadalupe River, you’ll be falling for Gruene’s small-town charm in no time.

Make sure to visit The Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar for amazing food with a scenic view and explore the small but charming downtown area complete with a winery and General Store.

Salado – A Creative Escape

Art galleries? Check. Breweries? Check. A sculpture garden? Absolutely!

Salado is an artsy little town where you can sip local craft beer, enjoy a glass of boutique wine, browse unique shops, and soak up small-town charm without the crowds.

Explore the Salado Sculpture Garden, visit Barrow Brewing Company, and step into history at the Stagecoach Inn, one of the oldest continually operating inns in Texas.

Port Aransas – A Coastal Hidden Gem

When people think Texas beaches, they usually picture Galveston or South Padre.

But Port Aransas is where you’ll find pristine sandy shores, excellent fishing, and laid-back island vibes.

Not only that, but Port Aransas is way less crowded than the bigger beach towns, which makes it score extra points in our book!

Spend the day at Mustang Island State Park, take a dolphin-watching cruise, or grab fresh seafood at Irie’s Island Food.

While visiting, be sure to travel like the locals by renting a golf cart. There is just something so fun about driving a golf cart through town and along the beach, don’t you think?!

Dublin – The Real Home of Dr Pepper

If you love Dr Pepper (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), you must visit Dublin, Texas.

This tiny town is where the soda was first bottled, and while the original recipe is no longer made here, the nostalgia (and soda museum) makes it a fun stop.

Visit the Dr Pepper Museum, before checking out the historical displays at the Dublin Historical Museum.

Fredericksburg – German Charm in the Texas Hill Country

Fiesta Winery Fredericksburg

Technically not that hidden any more, but Fredericksburg deserves a spot for its perfect blend of German heritage, wine country, and small-town charm.

Spend a weekend winery-hopping, eating schnitzel, and pretending you’re in Bavaria—Texas style. Stop by Enchanted Rock State Natural Area for a scenic hike, explore Pioneer Museum, and enjoy a wine tasting at one of Fredericksburg’s wineries.

If you happen to visit in the fall, try to plan your visit around Fredericksburg’s Oktoberfest for an extra dose of German hospitality.

No matter what, Fredericksburg is always a fun weekend getaway in Texas!

Palo Duro Canyon – The Grand Canyon’s Cool Cousin

orange cliffs and desert terrain

Okay, so Palo Duro is more of a natural wonder than a town, but we’re bending the rules because it’s that good and truly a must-see spot in Texas.

Hike, camp, or take in a live show at the outdoor Texas Outdoor Musical amphitheater—which is a must-see for any Texan traveler.

Explore Lighthouse Trail, go horseback riding, or take a scenic drive through the second-largest canyon in the U.S.

If you’re into stargazing, Palo Duro Canyon has you covered there also!
